Ah Han Silva, 98, of Pahala died March 20, 2014. Born in Pahala, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. March 29 at Kauahaao Congregational Church in Waiohinu for a visitation. A service will follow. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. March 31 at Mililani Memorial Park on Oahu. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.

She is survived by sons, Thomas Silva of Oahu, Lawrence (Kay) Silva of Glendale, Calif.; daughter, Dorothy Kalua of Pahala; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose Hose

Rose “Chubby” Marie Hose, 67, of Hilo died March 16, 2014, at home. Born Sept. 21, 1946, in Hilo, she was a retired loss prevention agent for the former Woolworths in Hilo and a stationary guard for various security companies. She was also a member of Thy Word Ministries in Hilo and a member of the Humane Society.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. March 27 at Thy Word Ministries in Hilo for a visitation. A service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Family requests aloha and casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.

She is survived by husband, Clifford Hose Sr. of Hilo; sons, Harry (Ursula) Hose of Hilo, Clifford (Gail) Hose Jr. of Keaau; daughters, Donna (Claudine) Hose of Hilo, Beverly (Alan) Ige of Honolulu, Dinah’s Hose of Honolulu, Jewel (Gene Juan) Hose of Waimea, Maureen (Russell) Hamilton of Hilo, Helen (Kenneth) Rios of Honolulu; brother, Dennis (Barbara) Moniz of Chicago; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Patricia Ann “Pat” Kuuleialoha J. Lee, 81, of Hilo died March 9, 2014, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born July 24, 1932, in Bakersfield, Calif., she was a retired teacher at Waiakea Elementary School and a home economist. She was a member of Haili Church and Olaa First Congregational Church. She was also a member of the Peace Corps, the Woman’s Board of Missions of the Pacific, and Christian Endeavor.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. March 28, at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a visitation. A service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may call again from 9 to 11 a.m. March 29 at Haili Church in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Burial will follow at Homelani Memorial Park, section 7. Walter Paresa

Walter Antone Paresa, 86, of Honokaa died March 8, 2014, at home. Born April 11, 1927, in Honokaa, he was a retired supervisor from the former Honokaa Sugar Company and a security guard for the former Freeman Guards Inc.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. March 29 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. service. Urn burial will follow at the church cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by daughters, Marie Paresa of Honokaa, Annette (Jeremy) Porter of Hilo; three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Brenda Mendoza

Brenda “Bren” Lee Mendoza, 53, of Honomalino died Feb. 13, 2014, at Ka`u Hospital. Born Sept. 15, 1960, in Vancouver, Wash., she was a homemaker. She was the owner of Rainbow Cottage Preschool. She also worked as an upholstery assistant.

Friends may call at noon March 29 at Hookena Beach Park for a service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

Kehaulani Kua, 36, of Hilo died March 18, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a preschool teacher at Headstart Piihonua, a former preschool student teacher for Edith Kanakaole Foundation, she worked at Office Max and was a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship.

Mae Mitsuko Okano, 73, of Keaau died March 15, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker. She was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Hilo.

Francisco Pira

Francisco “Ikong” V. Pira Sr., 79, of Honokaa died March 18, 2014, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born May 2, 1934, in Pidigan Abra, Philippines, he was a retired field hand for the former Hamakua Sugar Plantation Company. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Friends may call at 7 a.m. March 28 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcomed. Burial will be held at Honokaa Catholic Cemetery.

Kenneth “Kenny” Alton Dyer, 57, of Kailua-Kona died March 19, 2014, at his residence. Born June 19, 1956, in Tulsa, Okla., he was a framer and painter for Metcalf Construction Company, Tom Catton Painting and STP Painting. He was also a member of Narcotics Anonymous Hawaii.

Abbie Walker Armor, 91, of Hilo died March 11, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Elba, Ala., she was a homemaker.

Marilyn Loando

Marilyn “Lyn” “Princess” Tina Loando, 70, of Kalaoa died Feb. 13, 2014, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born March 31, 1943, in Waiaha, she retired as funeral director for Dodo Mortuary, Inc.. She also worked at the former Kona Inn Gift Lanai, Kona Surf Resort Shop, Hualalai Memorial Park, Burla’s Nursery, and was a coffee picker at J. Harada and K. Ota Farms. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, a charter member of the American Business Women’s Association, Konalani Chapter, an associate member of the former Kohala Puerto Rican Club, she served as president of March of Dimes, and was the general chairman for Mothers Against Birth Defects.

Friends may call at 6:30 p.m. April 4 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 74-574 Honokohau St. for a 7 p.m. prayer service. Friends may call again at 8 a.m. April 5 at the church for a 10 a.m. service; burial will follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. A luncheon will be held at the church’s luncheon area. The family requests the ohana to wear their ohana attire; flowers are welcome.

Mitsue Miyaji, 88, of Pepeekeo died March 15, 2014, at home. Born in Kalaoa, Papaikou, she was a homemaker. She was a a member of Hilo Meishoin Mission Kyodan and Fujinkai.

She is survived by sons, Glenn Miyaji, Harvey Miyaji both of Hilo, Jarrett (Sheryl) Miyaji of Honolulu; daughter, Charlene (Calvin) Mashiba of Hilo; brothers, Tom (Faith) Suzuki of Hilo, Shoji (Myrna) Suzuki of Las Vegas; sister, Claudia Sample of Hilo; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Hitoshi Koizumi, 92, of Hilo died March 8, 2014, at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired welder with the State of Hawaii. He was also a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Kyodan, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the Hilo Interpreters Club Military Intelligence Service, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Yamaguchi Kenjin Kai, and the Nikkei Jin Kyokai.

Private services were held. Family requests monetary donations be omitted.

He is survived by wife, Michi Koizumi, daughter, Jane (Gordon) Heit both of Hilo, two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

Joseph Yap

Joseph “Joe” Kamohoalii Yap, 86, of Pepeekeo died March 6, 2014, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born Feb. 5, 1928, in Makawao, Maui, he was a farmer and veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army.

Private services were held.

He is survived by daughters, Ramona (Tom Silva) Naone of Keaau, Brenda (Robert) Kleinschmidt of Carlsbad, Calif., Lindamae (Kevin) Horiuchi of Hilo, Zelda (Stephen) Montoya of Perrott’s Brook, England; three brothers; one sister; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
